About this course

Every organisation is ultimately made up of people. Understanding behaviour can therefore be central to effective management.

This course introduces you to psychological thinking and considers how it can be applied to workplace and business environments.

You will explore topics including behaviour, motivation, communication, leadership and workplace relationships while also developing an understanding of business and management.

The course is not designed as a traditional psychology pathway. Instead, it focuses on how psychological insight can help organisations understand people and improve organisational performance.

Understanding people at work requires an awareness of ethical responsibilities, inclusion, wellbeing and the wider impact of organisational decisions. You will consider ethical approaches to managing people and organisations alongside responsible business and sustainability.

Themes connected to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will also provide opportunities to consider issues such as equality, wellbeing, decent work and inclusive organisations.

You will explore people and organisations from both local and international perspectives. You will consider how organisational cultures, leadership approaches and employee expectations can vary across different environments and markets.

Lincolnshire's diverse economy provides relevant contexts across sectors including agriculture and food, manufacturing, tourism, retail, professional services and community organisations, while the course also considers the increasingly global nature of employment and organisational management.

This makes it suitable for students interested in HR, leadership, employee experience, organisational development, recruitment, learning and development and wider people-focused careers.
