Course summary

The CertHE Business Management provides an accessible introduction to the world of business and management. It is designed for students who want to understand how organisations operate, how people work together and how businesses respond to changing commercial environments.

You will explore key areas of business while developing practical skills in communication, leadership, problem-solving and decision-making. The course takes a contemporary approach, considering how technology, AI, entrepreneurship and responsible business are influencing organisations.

About this course

Business is ultimately about people, ideas, decisions and action.

This course introduces you to how organisations operate and how managers respond to opportunities and challenges. You will develop an understanding of business functions, organisational behaviour, leadership, strategy and commercial decision-making.

You will also explore how businesses are changing as a result of digital technologies, AI, changing customer expectations and new approaches to entrepreneurship and responsible business.

The course is designed to help you develop both knowledge and confidence. You will learn to communicate ideas, work with others, analyse problems and make evidence-based recommendations.

Good management involves making decisions that consider people, performance and wider organisational responsibilities. You will explore ethical leadership, responsible management and sustainability, considering how organisations can create value while responding to social and environmental challenges.

The course will also introduce themes connected to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), helping you understand the role businesses can play in supporting more sustainable and responsible economies.

You will explore business and management within both the Lincolnshire economy and the wider global business environment. You will consider how organisations respond to different markets, customers, technologies, cultures and competitive pressures.

Lincolnshire's diverse economy, including agriculture and food, manufacturing, tourism, retail and professional services, provides valuable real-world contexts for understanding how businesses operate, grow and respond to change.

It provides a broad foundation, making it suitable for students who are interested in business but have not yet decided which specific area they want to specialise in.

Scheduled Teaching Hours

Undergraduate programmes consist of 360 HE credits, with each credit equating to 10 hours of learning.

Depending upon the mode of delivery (i.e. face-to-face/in-person, online or a blend of these) and whether your course is full-time or part-time, the delivery of the scheduled hours for the programme will involve taught input, independent study, and where applicable, work-based or placement hours.

We welcome A/AS Levels, BTEC qualifications, T Levels, Access to Higher Education Diplomas, International Baccalaureate (IB), Cambridge Pre-U and the Extended Project Qualification where these meet the required tariff.

Alternative qualifications and relevant experience may also be considered through the University's admissions process.

International applicants may be considered with equivalent qualifications, subject to relevant requirements.

Assessment includes business reports, presentations, consultancy projects, dashboards, portfolios and reflective activities.

Fees & Funding

A CertHE is a one-year undergraduate qualification, so you will pay one year of undergraduate tuition fees.

Undergraduate fees for 2027 entry will be confirmed following a UK Government announcement by the Department for Education (DfE), expected in late 2026.
