BA (Hons) Psychology student, Olivia Georgeson, shared her journey from sixth form student to university graduate, after once believing that university might not be for her.
With a history of physical illness, some mental health challenges and periods away from education in the past, Olivia once wondered whether university would ever be possible for her, or if a career in Psychology was within reach.
That’s where Lincoln Bishop came in.
As part of our outreach work with schools and colleges, Olivia’s sixth form received a visit from Lincoln Bishop, including a talk from our Psychology team. Olivia said: “Leaving the talk about studying Psychology at Lincoln Bishop, I felt inspired and like I belonged somewhere I hadn't even been yet. In that one moment, I believed it would be possible for me.”
After visiting our welcoming and supportive Lincoln campus, Olivia said: “I felt like I was home and the sense of belonging meant everything to me”. From there, she applied to study Psychology at Lincoln Bishop – a course with small class sizes, lecturers who genuinely know their students and a strong sense of community.
Crowned University of the Year for Student Support by the Daily Mail University Guide in 2026, Olivia shared how she was supported by Lincoln Bishop colleagues throughout her studies: “The support I received from the University and the Psychology team was exceptional. From my first year onwards, all my lecturers were approachable and genuinely invested in helping students to succeed. When I struggled to have confidence in myself, the academic team consistently had confidence in me and that has left a lasting impact on my academic journey and future aspirations.

After settling in, building confidence and forming new connections, Olivia could make the most of university life - spending time with friends after lectures, enjoying fun evenings at the Union Bar and making the most of everything Lincoln has to offer.
Olivia said: “The city has an amazing balance of history and nightlife; it has everything you could want no matter what student experience you're after. I love how Lincoln combines the energy of a city whilst maintaining a calm and relaxed environment in the uphill area.
“Lincoln quickly became the place I called home.”
With invaluable support from her academics, a close-knit community and the opportunity to grow, Olivia has gone from strength to strength over the last three years. She recently completed her dissertation which she describes as “the most memorable experience” and attended her graduation ceremony at Lincoln Cathedral in July 2026.
With the next step of studying a master’s on the horizon, Olivia is on the journey towards her long-term ambition of completing a PhD and building a career as a researcher and academic – just like those at Lincoln Bishop who first inspired her journey.
Olivia said: “Looking back now, choosing to attend Lincoln Bishop was one of the best decisions I’ve made, and I would recommend studying psychology here without hesitation.”
