Business students at Lincoln Bishop University recently had the opportunity to explore stakeholder management beyond the classroom when they welcomed Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Andrew Gower, as a guest speaker.
The session formed part of the Organisational Environments and Behaviour module, where first year Business Management students have been examining the role of stakeholder management within organisations.
Stakeholder management is a key aspect of organisational success, requiring leaders to balance competing priorities, understand diverse perspectives and build effective relationships with a wide range of internal and external groups. To help bring these concepts to life, students were given the opportunity to hear directly from a senior leader responsible for navigating these challenges in a complex and dynamic environment.
During the session, Professor Gower answered students' questions and shared insights into the realities of leading a modern university. Drawing on his own experience, he discussed how stakeholder interests influence strategic decision-making, highlighting the importance of engagement, communication and collaboration in achieving organisational goals.
The session provided valuable context for students as they prepare for their upcoming assessments, while also offering a unique opportunity to engage directly with the University's senior leadership team.
Andrew Imms, Business Tutor, said: "One of the most rewarding aspects of teaching stakeholder management is helping students understand that organisations are ultimately about people and relationships. Having the opportunity to hear directly from the Vice-Chancellor enabled students to see how the theories they study are applied in practice every day. We are extremely grateful to Professor Gower for giving his time and sharing his experience with our students."
Becky Goodman, Programme Leader for Business and Enterprise, added: "This is exactly the kind of experience that brings learning theory to life. At Lincoln Bishop University, we are committed to ensuring our students can connect academic concepts with real-world practice. The opportunity to engage directly with senior leaders and explore how business principles inform strategic decision-making helps develop the knowledge, skills and confidence that employers are looking for. We believe education is at its most powerful when students can see practical application alongside academic theory."
The event reflects Lincoln Bishop University's commitment to providing an engaging, career-focused learning experience, ensuring business students have opportunities to connect classroom learning with contemporary organisational practice and leadership.
