Course summary
The BSc (Hons) Psychology and Business Management combines psychological insight with business and management knowledge to explore one of the most important factors in organisational success: people.
You will examine how psychology can inform leadership, motivation, workplace behaviour, employee experience, organisational culture and business performance.
Rather than being a traditional psychology degree, the programme focuses on applying psychological thinking to business and organisational environments.
You will develop analytical and interpersonal skills alongside broader business capability, giving you a distinctive profile for careers involving people, leadership and organisational change.
The course also considers how organisations are changing through digital transformation, changing workforce expectations and new approaches to leadership and employee experience.

About this course
People influence every aspect of organisational performance.
Understanding what motivates people, how teams work, why employees behave in particular ways and how leaders influence organisational culture can provide powerful insights into business performance.
This degree explores those questions through an interdisciplinary approach combining psychology and business management.
You will explore areas such as motivation, behaviour, leadership, organisational culture, employee experience and people management while developing broader business knowledge.
The course encourages you to apply psychological concepts rather than studying them solely in abstract terms. You will consider how psychological insight can support practical organisational decisions.
Organisations have responsibilities towards their employees, customers and wider communities. Throughout the degree, you will explore ethical approaches to leadership, people management, organisational behaviour and decision-making.
You will also consider sustainability and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly themes relating to equality, wellbeing, decent work, inclusive organisations and responsible approaches to managing people.
The degree combines a strong understanding of the Lincolnshire employment and business environment with an international perspective on people and organisations.
You will consider how organisational behaviour, leadership, motivation and employee expectations are influenced by different cultures, sectors and working environments. Local examples from agriculture and food, manufacturing, tourism, retail, professional services and community organisations provide opportunities to connect theory with practice.
This makes the degree particularly suited to students interested in people-focused careers who also want a strong understanding of business.
Scheduled Teaching Hours
The Foundation Year is the first year of a four-year undergraduate degree and provides a pathway to undergraduate study for students who do not have the typical qualifications required for direct entry to Level 4. As an integrated Foundation Year it does not carry credits, as the purpose of the year is to facilitate students’ progression to Level 4 of their chosen undergraduate degree programme [see Undergraduate].
The delivery of the scheduled hours for the programme includes taught and independent study and is designed to support the needs of learners on Foundation Year programmes as they transition to the requirements of Higher Education study. Material is delivered in both face-to-face and asynchronous formats, totalling 176 hours of taught input, and includes both core academic skills training and additional input from subject specialists. Contact hours in taught sessions are complemented by an extensive support curriculum that operates through the year, typically comprising, but not limited to, additional tutorials, catch-up sessions, study groups, and personal support.
Entry requirements
Application for this course is via UCAS, although there is no formal requirement for UCAS points to access the course (normally GCSE English or equivalent is desirable). As part of your application you will have the opportunity to speak with a member of Lincoln Bishop Admissions staff to resolve any questions or queries you may have.

The Foundation Year syllabus does not include any specific element of upskilling in English language and you are not entitled to apply for Accredited Prior Learning, AP(C)L into a Foundation Year.
How you will be taught
Teaching combines interactive lectures, workshops, organisational simulations, consultancy projects and employer-informed activities.
You will explore psychological and business theories through realistic workplace situations.
Practical experience is an important part of developing your understanding of people and organisations. You may have the opportunity to undertake a one-week work placement, giving you experience of applying psychological and business concepts within a professional environment.
Employer-informed challenges, organisational scenarios and consultancy-style activities will provide further opportunities to explore issues such as leadership, motivation, employee experience, organisational development and workplace behaviour.
Applied learning will help you understand how psychological insight can be translated into practical approaches to leadership, employee experience, organisational development and performance.
Assessment
Assessment includes business reports, presentations, consultancy projects, dashboards, portfolios and reflective practice.
You will be expected to apply psychological and business knowledge to organisational challenges and communicate your conclusions effectively.
Careers & Further study
Potential careers include HR adviser, talent acquisition specialist, recruitment manager, learning and development consultant, employee experience manager, organisational development consultant, leadership development officer, business consultant and people analytics specialist.
The interdisciplinary nature of the degree can also support careers in management and wider business functions.
Further postgraduate study could include business, management, organisational psychology, HR, leadership or related master's programmes, subject to individual programme entry requirements.
