About this course

This programme places you and your personal development and career aspirations at its core. You will have the power to shape your learning journey through your studies, work, and associated experiences. You will study via a blended strategy, undertaking your study in two-day blocks equal to two weekends per module.

Furthermore, you will be supported by designated module tutors and will become an integral part of the Lincoln Bishop Business community through your attendance at bespoke business breakfasts, guest lectures and through your attendance at CMI events. Through joining the Business community at Lincoln Bishop you are joining a community that cares about how they do business and who they do business with. In addition, you are immersed into the wider university community and will be challenged to make a positive impact on the societies in which we live and work.

The MBA curriculum is action centred and will challenge you ‘to do’. Core to the notion of ‘doing’ and acting is the spirit in which this activity should be ‘done’. You will be challenged to act in line with the ethos of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a collection of 17 global goals designed to be a "blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all”.

Who is this course designed for?

MBA has been specifically designed for individuals with at least two to three years’ business and management experience and is well suited to individuals who wish to formalise and build upon their existing business, management and leadership knowledge and expertise. This is a generalist programme that provides a broad, analytical, and integrated study of business and management.

The main purpose of the MBA (Strategic Leadership) is to provide experienced or early career leaders with a part-time based route to develop and enhance their professional competence as strategic managers and leaders by equipping them with a creative approach to applying a holistic business knowledge to manage and lead organisations in a complex world.

MBA learners will be supported by the Programme Team and The Hub to develop the requisite study and academic skills needed for success. Furthermore, you will be encouraged to take advantage of the business facilities and services offered by Lincolnshire Open Research and Innovation Centre (LORIC) and BG Futures, Lincoln Bishops on-site Business and Enterprise Centre and Careers, Employability and Enterprise Team.

Scheduled Teaching Hours

Postgraduate programmes consist of 180 HE credits, with each credit equating to 10 hours of learning. 

Depending upon the mode of delivery (i.e. face-to-face/in-person, online or a blend of these) and whether your course is full-time or part-time, the delivery of the scheduled hours for the programme will involve taught input, independent study, and where applicable, work-based or placement hours.

The ability to enhance organisational performance through the dynamic and effectual leadership and development of people is fundamental for Leaders who wish to achieve and maximise organisational success. The aim of this module is to equip learners with the requisite knowledge to develop the skills and occupational competence needed to effectively lead and develop people in pursuit of organisational excellence.

The aim of this module is to equip learners with the requisite knowledge to develop the skills needed to effectively and proactively develop an entrepreneurial response to complex organisational challenges in volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous (VUCA) environments. Furthermore, learners will explore how to set and deliver sustainable strategic goals.

Learners will explore how to critically assess methods for analysing financial data and information required to make strategic decisions. Learners will also develop their understanding and knowledge of financial governance and legislative requirements.

Learners will critique the factors which drive the development of organisational strategy and appraise approaches to successfully develop strategy. The module culminates in learners developing an organisational strategy to achieve a business goal. To complement this activity, learners will propose an approach to implement and monitor the strategy developed to ensure its sustained success.

This module provides learners with the opportunity to initiate, plan and produce a unique and independent piece of work that showcases and further builds on the knowledge, skills and mindset developed throughout the programme to date.

Learners are encouraged to self-select a format for their final project that best suits their career ambitions and overarching goals for their MBA. Learners may opt to complete a business dissertation, applied corporate project, or produce a business plan.

Entry requirements

You may be a graduate with an honour’s degree at 2:2 or above. Consideration will also be given to accepting students who can demonstrate relevant business, management and leadership experience and the ability and commitment to study at master’s level. In all instances you must demonstrate a minimum of 3 years of business and management experience.

How you will be taught

As a distance-learning programme aimed at learners both in the UK and across the world, the MBA is a programme that predominantly utilises asynchronous delivery. This allows learners in full-time employment and/or any time zone to undertake the course remotely and complete the learning at a time that best suits their individual context and needs. To provide learners with an engaging and high-quality learning experience, a variety of activities and resources are used.

Assessment

You will be assessed through a variety of methods, ranging from traditional coursework to more practical assessments such as the creation of Vlogs and Podcasts. Throughout, an emphasis on self-reflection is also present, with you being encouraged to consider how you will apply learning within the workplace. You will be encouraged to self-select a format for your final project that best suits your career ambitions and overarching goals for your MBA. You may also opt to complete a business dissertation, applied corporate project, or produce a business plan.
