About this course

Marketing is one of the most visible areas of business, but effective marketing begins long before an advertisement reaches a customer. Organisations need to understand people, identify opportunities, create value, build brands and develop relationships.

This course introduces these principles while placing marketing within a wider business context.

You will explore customer behaviour, branding, communication, marketing strategy and commercial growth while developing an understanding of how marketing interacts with other parts of an organisation.

Digital transformation is central to modern marketing. Customers interact with brands across multiple digital channels, while marketers increasingly use data, analytics, automation and AI to understand audiences and optimise activity.

Modern marketing involves understanding the responsibilities organisations have towards customers, communities and wider society. You will consider ethical marketing, responsible communication and sustainability, alongside questions about how organisations create genuine and lasting customer value.

You will also explore themes connected to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and consider how marketing can contribute to wider social and environmental objectives.

You will explore marketing from both local and international perspectives, considering how organisations understand customers and respond to different markets and cultures.

Lincolnshire offers a distinctive business context, with agriculture and food, tourism, retail, manufacturing and professional services providing examples of organisations that need to build brands and engage customers locally, nationally and internationally.

You will therefore develop an awareness of both creative and analytical approaches to marketing. The course encourages you to think about why customers behave in particular ways and how organisations can respond effectively.
