Start Your Future at the UK’s No.1 for Teaching Quality (NSS 2025) - Apply for September 2026

Lincoln Bishop University has been ranked 9th in the UK for English, in the Guardian University Guide 2026.

Published on Saturday 13th September, the guide details an overall league table of UK universities, as well as individual subject profiles and tables.

Claudia Capancioni, Professor of English Literature and Programme Leader for English at Lincoln Bishop, said: "We are delighted with the results, which reflect our commitment to student-centred learning."

The Guardian ranks universities across eight different categories to produce the rankings, including student satisfaction in teaching. Feedback from students via the National Student Survey (NSS) 2025, published earlier in the year, is also taken into account – in which Lincoln Bishop was ranked 1st for Teaching and 1st for English Literature in the UK.

The NSS provides students with the opportunity to submit feedback on their university experience. Undergraduates in their final year of study are invited to answer questions on a variety of topics from their teaching and facilities to learning opportunities, resources and support.

This accolade comes at an exciting time for our English department and wider institution, as the start of the new academic year welcomes the commencement of applications from students who will begin their undergraduate studies in September 2026.

English at Lincoln Bishop provides exciting and wide-ranging opportunities to study the power of human creativity and the rich heritage of literary expression.

From a single honours undergraduate degree in English Literature, to a variety of joint honours programmes combined with Psychology, History, and more, there is a path to suit every English student here.
