Start Your Future at the UK’s No.1 for Teaching Quality (NSS 2025) - Apply for September 2026

Promoting ‘Reading for Pleasure’ in the primary classroom forms a core element of the Primary Education course with all students encouraged to recognise the importance of reading in the educational and emotional development of children.

Alongside library staff and lecturers, the students work hard to develop their subject knowledge of high-quality children's books which they can then use to provide their pupils with a wide and varied choice of books.

Based on their efforts to develop reading for pleasure, BGU students were invited to submit case studies outlining their personal and professional development on Research Rich Pedagogies; a website which serves as a repository for research and best practice for schools and HE institutions.

The first BGU student case study has already been accepted and published with more to follow over the coming weeks. You can download the first BGU case study here.

Emma Rogers, Senior Lecturer, expressed her pride at seeing the students being recognised for their hard work:

"Enjoyment of reading is so important for our students' professional development as well as their personal well being. We know that teachers who read widely are better able to support the development of young readers in the classroom. So, I am really proud of all the efforts our students make to build their knowledge and experience of children's books and am thrilled that their learning can be shared with a national audience of primary practitioners."

The Primary Education courses at BGU regularly interact with schools and other educational groups around the country to provide our students with a varied and engaging educational experience.
