This April, Education and Early Childhood students returned from an inspiring exchange visit hosted by the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS), as part of the UKNL Exchange Programme.

The visit followed the first part of the exchange, during which AUAS students visited Lincoln Bishop in March. Now in its third year, the partnership continues to enable students and staff from both institutions to broaden their educational horizons and gain valuable global perspectives.

During the trip to Amsterdam, the group gained insight into the wide range of facilities available across the school settings they visited, including a vocational college focused on practical re‑engagement and a child‑led primary school centred on wellbeing and independence.

Students from both countries engaged in discussions and reflection on differing approaches to education, creating a collaborative environment in which they could learn from one another.

One of our MA Education students, Sally Stevenson, who joined the trip said: “The experience was thought‑provoking and provided real insight into how different educational approaches can support both academic and vocational learners.”

The exchange not only deepened academic understanding but also built upon lasting international friendships and professional networks. Philip Yeung, Head of Online Learning, also took part in the trip. He said: “Experiencing education across such a wide range of settings was truly eye‑opening and offered valuable inspiration for our own practice. We’re extremely grateful to our colleagues at AUAS for delivering such a high‑quality and meaningful exchange.”

This programme is one of many opportunities available to Lincoln Bishop students, demonstrating the University’s ongoing commitment to preparing future educators for an increasingly globalised world.
