We are delighted to celebrate a significant milestone with the success of the first two graduates from our Part-Time Professional Graduate Diploma in Education (Teaching Post-16 and Further Education) programme.

This innovative and flexible course has been specifically designed to enable aspiring teachers to continue working while studying and training towards their Further Education teaching qualification. The programme is a route for individuals who wish to teach courses such as BTECs, A Levels and Access to HE in further education colleges, sixth form colleges, private sector training providers, offender education, and alternative provisions.

By offering a part-time route into the profession, the programme provides individuals with the opportunity to embark on their teaching journey without the financial pressures that can often be associated with returning to full-time study, making it a highly accessible pathway in today's world.

We are extremely proud that the first two graduates of this pioneering route, Kaitlin and Ami, graduated in July 2026 at Lincoln Cathedral.

Katilin said: “Flexible, accommodating and unrestricting is how I would describe the part-time PgDE course at Lincoln Bishop University.

“Having the part-time option allowed me to still work full time and unexpectedly become pregnant and then give birth during my time on the course. After I had my daughter Kathryn and Stefan were extremely helpful with being able to ensure I completed all required elements while taking care of my young family.

“Ultimately a full-time qualification would not have appealed or been amenable to me and this option allowed me to achieve my qualification and not miss out on work or time and home.”

Their achievements mark an important moment for the programme and demonstrate the success of a model that supports trainees to gain valuable practical experience in the workplace while developing the knowledge and skills required to become outstanding Further Education teachers.

Kathryn Fusenich, FE ITE Senior Lecturer, said: “Throughout their studies, both Kaitin and Ami have shown exceptional dedication, resilience, and professionalism, consistently demonstrating outstanding commitment to their learning and excellence within their respective areas of work.

“Their accomplishments are a testament to their hard work and determination, and they serve as an inspiration to future cohorts embarking on this exciting pathway into teaching.”
