Recently, Lincoln Bishop University hosted its first East Midlands Reducing Re-Offending event in collaboration with HM Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS).

This valuable and distinctive event saw a range of local organisations who specialise in offering support to a range of rehabilitation pathways such as education, employment, health and housing, come together. Attendees included officials representing all 9 of the male prisons operating within the East Midlands region.

To enrich the event further, the audience listened to the personal stories and rehabilitation journeys of 6 ex-offenders.  Such honest reflection embedded within each individual story offered a rich learning opportunity for all and several Foundation Year and BA (Hons) Criminology students joined in on what the day had to offer.

Gillian Johnston, Programme Leader for Criminology at Lincoln Bishop, said: “I’m thrilled that we have had the opportunity to host such a productive and unique event.  The learning value for all of us, particularly for our students, is immeasurable.

“This is our 2nd collaboration with HMPPS, and we hope to continue to develop this relationship with further offending focussed events in the future.”

Commenting on the success of the conference the Prison Group Director noted that “the positivity of the event was there to be seen”.
