We invite you to an evening of powerful cinema and conversation, as part of the Climate & Migration Community Film Festival, at our on campus cinema, The Venue, on Wednesday 26th November.

Starting at 5:30pm, the screening is of the film Utama (dir. Alejandro Loayza Grisi), Winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival. Set in the Bolivian highlands, Utama tells the moving story of an elderly Quechua couple confronting a devastating drought that threatens their traditional way of life. The beautifully shot film explores love, resilience, and the intergenerational challenges of climate change and displacement.

The screening is free to attend with a runtime of around an hour and a half and an age rating of 12A. To book your free place, please click here or to watch the trailer, please click here!

The screening will be followed by a post-film discussion with academics from Lincoln Bishop University, reflecting on themes of climate justice, migration and cultural survival. The discussion will also connect to themes explored in our undergraduate English Literature module on environmental writing.

Lucinda Newns, Senior Lecturer in English at Lincoln Bishop and host of the screening, said: “We’re delighted to invite staff, students, and the local community to join us for a special screening celebrating the power of cinema and inspiring conversation around urgent climate issues.”

The Climate & Migration Community Film Festival is curated by Counterpoints Arts in partnership with Earth RefugeCMJ (Climate & Migrant Justice Organising Group), and City of Sanctuary, coinciding with COP30 and Climate & Migrant Justice Day (22 Nov).

This event is hosted by the Re-Presenting the Past Research and Knowledge Exchange Unit (RKEU) at Lincoln Bishop University.
