Start Your Future at the UK’s No.1 for Teaching Quality (NSS 2025) - Apply for September 2026

Two of our university academics, Dr Adam Foxon and Professor Jack Cunningham, recently launched a podcast; ‘Fast Football and Philosophy’.

What began as organic conversations, combining the seemingly unrelated themes of football and their academic interest of philosophy, slowly blossomed into the idea that they could create a podcast and record amusing yet thought provoking conversations that they were already having.

The two originally met when Adam joined Lincoln Bishop University as an undergraduate student to study Theology, Philosophy and Ethics. Recently, their story became full circle when Adam assumed the position of Programme Lead for the course, a position vacated by Professor Cunningham due to his impending retirement.

With series one now complete and a total of ten episodes to date, Adam and Jack are excited for the start of series two, which launched on Thursday 29th January 2026.

Adam Foxon, Programme Lead for Theology, Philosophy and Ethics at Lincoln Bishop, said: “We’re incredibly excited about the launch of our second season and we can’t wait to share it with everyone, so if you ever fancy being the smartest in the pub, we’re the pod for you!”

Since the first episode aired around three months ago, their listenership has built up around the globe reaching as far as America, Australia, India, Ireland, Netherlands, Oman, Philippines, Sweden and more.

Jack and Adam are passionate about the podcast reaching a wide variety of people, from both academic and non-academic backgrounds.

Jack Cunningham, Professor of Ecclesiastical History, said: “Football is a great way of starting a conversation, involving philosophical themes, in a way that is accessible for everyone. Throughout our episodes, football is the vehicle for initiating conversations about philosophy in everyday life.

“We are looking for as many people as possible from all walks of life to start listening, enjoy the podcast and become more philosophical. We hope to share how much we enjoy philosophy and how it can be applied almost everywhere!”
