Leanne Leverton, Senior Lecturer in Health & Social Care, and Dr Alex Carlin, Programme Leader for Health & Social Care at Lincoln Bishop University, recently led an engaging and interactive session exploring the lived experiences of carers.

The bi-monthly Lunch and Learn webinars bring together carers and professionals from across the country in an informal setting to collaborate, share learnings, and support the identification and needs of unpaid carers.

Drawing on research conducted with staff and students at the University, the session shared powerful, real-life experiences from both student and staff carers. By amplifying these voices, the discussion highlighted the complexities of caring, including experiences of domestic abuse alongside caring responsibilities.

Leanne said: “Creating a brave space for collective learning and reflection by exploring how we can improve the identification and support of domestic abuse carers was a powerful opportunity.

“It was a privilege to be part of such an open and reflective conversation, demonstrating a shared commitment to improving support for carers.”

The session emphasised the crucial role of health and social care professionals in recognising and supporting carers who may be affected by domestic abuse.

Building on this foundation, participants were encouraged to reflect on how we can all continue to support carers. The thoughtful, honest, and inquisitive contributions from attendees created a rich and meaningful dialogue.
