Final year undergraduate Business students at Lincoln Bishop were delighted to welcome Norman Mayhew, Managing Director of The Sussex Sign Company.
Norman shared his invaluable insights and expertise with final-year BA (Hons) Business students who are preparing to pitch for funding to launch their own ventures.
Norman, who founded The Sussex Sign Company in 1995, has grown the business into one of the UK’s leading signage providers, renowned for its innovation, quality, and customer service. The company recently celebrated its 30th anniversary and was honoured with the UK Graphic Awards’ Best Large-Scale Roll Out in 2024.
During his talk, Norman offered students a candid look into the realities of entrepreneurship, including the strategic pivots required to navigate economic shifts, legislation changes, and evolving market demands.
Students were particularly inspired by Norman’s emphasis on resilience, adaptability, and the importance of brand visibility. These are core themes that align with The Sussex Sign Company’s mission to help businesses stand out in competitive markets through bespoke signage solutions including shop signs, vehicle wraps, office branding, and wayfinding signage.
His talk was part of Business at Lincoln Bishop’s commitment to project-based learning, providing students with the opportunity to engage directly with industry leaders and apply theoretical knowledge to real-world challenges. This collaboration reflects the Business teams’ ongoing efforts to foster meaningful connections between academia and industry across the UK and beyond.
Becky Goodman, Programme Leader for Business & Enterprise at Lincoln Bishop, expressed her gratitude:
“We are incredibly thankful to Norman for taking the time to support our students. His story is not only inspiring but also deeply educational.
“Hearing directly from a successful entrepreneur helps our learners connect classroom theory with the dynamic realities of running a business. We look forward to continuing our partnership with The Sussex Sign Company and other forward-thinking businesses that are shaping the future of enterprise.”
