Strategy 2030’s emphasis on creating ‘Transformative Experiences’ sits at the core of what we do as a Students’ Union. We are not only proud to be a vital partner to the University in shaping the lives of our students, but we also see it as our duty.
The Students’ Union provides a vital link between the institution and the student; We concentrate and amplify the student voice, so it is heard at all levels of institutional organisation. We achieve this by building connections. A deep understanding of the needs of our student body helps us foster the feeling of community we have become so well known for. It is this feeling of community that drives transformative experiences for students. Through peer support, student-led societies, volunteering, or democratic representation, we create spaces where students can find their voice, challenge themselves, and grow in confidence.
The Strategy’s emphasis on a person-centred approach aligns with our ethos. We see every student as an individual with unique potential and strive to engage that potential through transformative experiences. We can achieve this by embodying the institution's six values: integrity, inclusion, courage, innovation, excellence, and respect. As an SU this manifests as mental health support, inclusive practices, and championing student voice beyond the University gates. Together, we are building a culture where students are not passive recipients of education, but active participants in shaping their futures.
As we look to 2030, we envision a university community where every student leaves not only with their desired qualification, but with a feeling of personal transformation—of challenges overcome, friendships forged, and ambitions realised. The Students’ Union will continue to be a catalyst for these stories, ensuring that the transformative promise of higher education is fulfilled for all.
