Dr Elizabeth Farrar
Elizabeth joined Lincoln Bishop in September 2015 having been a Headteacher for six years. She was involved in collaborative working with other primary schools across North Lincolnshire, including carrying out Teaching and Learning Reviews. Throughout her headship, Elizabeth’s school hosted ITT students from various universities, and she was the lead School Based Mentor for Lincoln Bishop placements.
She has taught across the Primary age range, specialising in 7 – 11 years, and has been subject leader in English, ICT, Geography and PSHE. Before moving into primary education, Elizabeth taught English in the secondary phase, up to and including A level.
Elizabeth completed her MA in Education at Lincoln Bishop in 2007. Her dissertation ‘Of Mice And Children’ examined pupils’ perceptions of ICT, exploring their home and school experiences, in order to consider ways to improve the provision and utilisation of technology in school.
She was awarded her Doctorate in Education in April 2023. Her research explored ITT trainees’ perceptions of the impact of poverty on pupils in English primary schools, involving all postgraduate programmes and spanning a four year period.
Her current research interests focus on the impact of trainee teachers’ perceptions of social class on pupil progress, and the implications of vocabulary acquisition for disadvantaged pupils.
Elizabeth is a group tutor on the PGCE programme, and leads the second academic module. Her teaching interests include English, Assessment and supporting disadvantaged pupils. Elizabeth is a dissertation supervisor on the BAPE undergraduate course. She is a module lead on the MA in Education programme and supervises MA dissertation students.
Earlier this year, Bishop Grosseteste University was given permission by the Office for Students (OfS) to change its name to Lincoln Bishop University.
