This 30-credit bundled unit comprises two distinct 15-credit modules: Research Skills for Practice and Collaborative Practice in Health and Social Care. Each module retains its own content, learning outcomes and assessment requirements.

Research Skills for Practice
This module develops students’ ability to critically evaluate and use research and other forms of evidence to inform and improve health and social care practice. Building on previous study of evidence-informed practice and decision-making, students will develop greater independence in research literacy in preparation for their dissertation. The module introduces research paradigms, methods of data collection and analysis, relevant software, and the ethical and governance processes that protect the rights, dignity and safety of those involved in research.

Collaborative Practice in Health and Social Care
This module explores professional practice within multi-agency and multidisciplinary settings, including the complexities of collaborative working, professional and personal ethics and values, and leadership across the health and social care sector. It includes the second placement, enabling students to extend their understanding of health and social care practice, develop their portfolio of knowledge, skills and values, and examine the relationships between their placement setting and other agencies involved in service users’ care.

Admissions Process

If you are applying for individual or bundled modules through the Lifelong Learning Entitlement (LLE), we will consider your application based on the level of study and the requirements of the module or modules you want to take.

You will need to show that you have the right knowledge, skills and preparation to study successfully at the level you are applying for. This could include previous qualifications, professional development, work experience or other relevant learning. If you have completed relevant prior learning at another institution, we may also be able to take this into account through our Recognition of Prior Learning process.

If you do not have the usual entry qualifications, we may still be able to consider your application. Please speak to our enquiries team for more information.

You will normally need to show successful study at Level 4, or equivalent prior learning. If it is relevant to the module, placement, learning activities or assessment, you will also need suitable sector experience. If you are not currently working in the sector, we may still consider your application if you can show enough previous experience or other suitable preparation.
