On Friday 25th April, our campus hosted the Service Child Awards – a first of its kind celebration to be held in Lincolnshire.

The purpose of the event was to celebrate the achievements of Lincolnshire's service children and recognise their contributions to the wider community. The awards also recognised the contributions of professionals who have gone above and beyond to support service children in Lincolnshire.

Colleagues from LINCHigher – a service dedicated to providing information to young people regarding Higher Education pathways, organised, facilitated and paid for the event.

Attendees to the awards were welcomed with buffet-style food and drink alongside music provided by the military band.

This was followed by the presentation of the awards for both children and support staff.

Various speakers took to the stage including some of the following guests: The Councillor Alan Briggs (Mayor of Lincoln), Brian Hardig (Sherrif of Lincolnshire), Toby Dennis (Lord Lieutenant of Lincolnshire, Group Captain 'Dutch' Holland (RAD Waddington), Representatives of LCC and Alison Webb (Director of Business and Community Engagement at BGU).

Vanessa Plumley MBE, Veteran and Policy Manager at the Royal Air Force Families Federation, said: “It’s great to see all of us come together to make sure that the children are at the heart of everything we do. A massive well done to all our winners.”

Shaun O’Neill, Community Projects Manager at LINCHigher, said: “Thank you to all pupils, families and staff who attended the event as well as guests who came to support.

“Particular highlights of the day included the speeches given by the Lord Lieutenant and Group Captain Dutch Holland, as well as the young people receiving their awards.

“This event is the first of its kind in Lincolnshire. It follows on from the Festival of Friends event last year and we are hoping to make this an annual celebration!”
