In June, our BA (Hons) Primary Education with QTS students hosted a ‘Taste of University Life’ event for year 6 aged children from several of Lincoln Bishop’s partner primary schools.
Hosted on campus, our students volunteered to plan and lead a variety of sessions for the primary school pupils including campus tours, craft and DT activities and question and answer sessions about attending university.
School children attended from St George's Primary in Gainsborough, St George’s Primary and St Nicholas Priory Primary in Great Yarmouth and Peckover Primary in Wisbech. During the day, the children designed virtual campuses for their career ambitions with ideas including universities for astronauts, engineers, equestrian, hair & beauty, sports and many more.
The children also made their mortar boards and ended the day with a mini-graduation – where they were presented with certificates of attendance to remind them of their visit.
Despite the weather, second year Primary Education students Grace Saunders, Grace Tucknutt, Lucy Busby-Smith, Lucy Castle, Lucy Guest, Rebecca Horn and Lilia Monks (Y1), created a welcoming and inspiring series of events across the three days.
Attending schools stated the students were a "credit to the university" and demonstrated "excellent teaching skills" ensuring the days ran smoothly.
Tracey Kilcoyne, Programme Leader for Primary Education at Lincoln Bishop, said: “Well done to all involved and thanks to everyone who supported us in the background to make these days possible.”
