Health and Social Care staff and students at Lincoln Bishop University formed part of an empowerment group, delivered by the Lincolnshire Domestic Abuse Specialist Service (LDASS).
Through discussion, brainstorming, and lyric writing, the group built a shared understanding of empowerment, from finding strength and self-belief to supporting others and celebrating individuality. Together, the group shaped these ideas into an original song written entirely with their own lyrics.
Leanne Leverton, Senior Lecturer in Health and Social Care at Lincoln Bishop, said: “We wanted to offer the opportunity for health and social care students to enhance their knowledge around individual empowerment, promote self-esteem, confidence and relationship building. The sessions surpassed my hopes as all the students reported perceived benefits from attending the sessions.”
The final session was hosted in collaboration with SoundLincs. Their mission is to create meaningful social impact through high-quality music programs, advocacy, and resources, empowering communities to connect with music in an engaging and accessible way.
Session leader, Emma, said: "The session was a great success, with lots of energy, creativity, and meaningful engagement from everyone involved. Participants really embraced the process, contributing their own thoughts and words about what empowerment means and feels like.
“It was a truly inspiring session, demonstrating how song writing can be a powerful tool for self-expression, confidence, and connection.
Many participants expressed surprise and pride that, by the end of the session, they had created a complete verse and chorus that reflected their own experiences and emotions.
Lincoln Bishop student, Ines, said: "The session was fantastic, amazing what you can create working as a team.”
