Bell Foundation and What is Language for Results?
Language for Results is an evidence-informed intervention designed to embed sustainable EAL provision across schools. Delivered nationally and internationally by The Bell Foundation and regionally by ILPs, BFLPs, Centres of Expertise, and supports all school staff—from senior leaders to teaching assistants—with the knowledge, strategies, and confidence to improve outcomes for learners using EAL.
What We Offer as newly accredited CoE
We deliver a wide range of The Bell Foundation CPD courses and workshops, tailored to both Primary and Secondary phases:
Primary Phase Sessions
- Adaptive Teaching for learners using EAL
- Comprehensible English for New Arrivals
- Teaching Assistants: Working with Learners using EAL
- Understanding Language for Learning in Multilingual Schools
- EAL Coordinators: Leading EAL in your school
- Leading a Whole School Strategy
- Supporting New Arrivals who are New to English
- ITT Modules 1–3 for student teachers

Secondary Phase Sessions
- Introduction to EAL Assessment
- Embedding EAL Assessment
- Supporting New Arrivals who are New to English
- Leading a Whole School Strategy
- Understanding Language for Learning
- EAL Coordinators: Leading EAL in your school
- Teaching Assistants: Working with Learners using EAL
- ITT Modules 1–3 for student teachers
We also offer Whole School Evaluation of EAL Provision, a collaborative process that includes self-assessment, learning walks, observations, and strategic recommendations.
Why It Matters
- Over 1.5 million learners in UK state schools speak EAL. (1,806,029 (21.4%) 1,770,160 (20.8%) in 2023/24. More than 1 in 5 of all pupils. Source: School Census, January 2025 - see data attached below)
- Research shows that EAL learner attainment is complex and often under-supported.
- Language for Results builds long-term capacity in schools, improving confidence, pedagogy, and learner outcomes.

Growing Our Capacity
Our team of Licensed Practitioners is expanding, with colleagues from across the Faculty engaging in The Bell Foundation CPD. This ensures our offer remains collaborative, research-informed, and responsive to local needs.
Presenting at UCET 2025
Last November we showcased our work at the UCET Annual Conference 2025, presenting Voicing Inclusion: Embedding Critical Oracy in Initial Teacher Education. This session explored how we integrate oracy and linguistic justice across our ITE programmes, aligned with the ITTECF framework and our Centre of Expertise status.
