Telling It Like It Is - TILIIs
This was an interpretative qualitative study which explored BAME students’ holistic experiences of Lincoln Bishop from application and reasons for choosing Lincoln Bishop (including marketing and promotion materials), through to experiences of study and support while on programme including grades achieved, graduation and advice given on career progression. The purpose of the study was to inform Lincoln Bishop of BAME students’ perceptions of provision and where further development may be needed. Building on the work of Sewell and Mirza which investigated BAME school students’ experiences of education, Peart which explored FE and the recent Universities UK/NUS report on the Attainment of BAME students the research will explored the particular dynamics of being a small university set in a primarily agricultural county with a 98% ‘white’ population with an aim of making recommendations for future practice. These dynamics are of particular importance as the BAME population at Lincoln Bishop is about 2% and the study seeks to explore how very small minorities experience life in a mainly White organization. BAME students nationally may perceive their university course as unsatisfactory in some respects (Singh, 2011) and are particularly vulnerable to discrimination during work-based placements (Gardner, 2008). In order to investigate how these and other factors have influenced BAME student recruitment and experiences at Lincoln Bishop, the study collected data on student perceptions using a semi-structured individual interviews with student participants. From a potential population of circa 55 students, 9 expressed interest in the project and 5 agreed to take part as student consultants. -

Accommodation for International Students
International students attending Lincoln Bishop University (Lincoln Bishop) must live within a commutable distance of the University. Lincoln Bishop considers this to be within 5 miles of the campus. Most international students choose to live in an uphill location, within a 10 minutes’ walk from the campus. Choosing an uphill location means students do not have to climb Lincoln’s ‘Steep Hill’ every day. The University’s Accommodation team understand the needs of international students and have a range of suitable accommodation options for all students. -

Funding Information
The Lincoln Bishop Bursary is an additional source of funding available to full-time students from the University. All students studying in 2024/25, who are eligible, will receive a Lincoln Bishop Bursary. Eligibility Students must satisfy the following criteria in order to qualify for the Lincoln Bishop Bursary. Basic eligibility: Students must be studying a full-time undergraduate course which began on or after 1st September 2021 with a minimum fee of £6,165 & Have a household income (as assessed by an awarding authority such as Student Finance England) of £30,000 or less. Students who satisfy the above as well as being in one of the following groups will be awarded a Bursary at the following rates according to the programme of study on which they are enrolled: BA Hons Award Annual Amount FdA/Foundation Year Annual Amount Mature (over 21 on Entry) £800.00 £600.00 Polar Q1 (young entrant, low participation neighbourhood) £800.00 £600.00 Student Carer £1000.00 £750.00 Care Leavers £3600.00 £3600.00 Estranged Students (as assessed by funding body) £1000.00 £750.00 Student Parent £1000.00 £750.00 -
