On Saturday 6th June, Lincoln Bishop’s World Religions and Education Research Unit (WRERU) and ISREV hosted an Online Doctoral Conference that brought together doctoral researchers and supervisors from across the world for a day of thoughtful discussion, shared ideas and genuine connection.
Hosted by Professor Julian Stern, Director of the World Religions and Education Research Unit (WRERU) at Lincoln Bishop University, and General Secretary of the International Seminar on Religious Education and Values, the conference opened with introductions and a warm welcome, with contributors and supervisors joining from England, as well as all four corners of the globe.
The conference featured papers exploring children’s questions and educational relationships, Christian faith-based responses to modern slavery, virtual methodologies in research with Muslim teachers, religious education and citizenship, and the experiences of Muslim women teaching in supplementary schools in the UK.
Professor Julian Stern, Professor of Education and Religion, said: “How good to host the first Doctoral Conference of WRERU and ISREV, with contributors from England, Germany, Ghana, Latvia, South Africa, Turkey, and Wales, along with research also in Nigeria and in the Caribbean.
He added: “A truly 'messy' conference ('mess' is a place to eat together and enjoy each other's company). We all have something to add to creation, and everyone was passionate about why the research matters. What better way to spend a day?”
The World Religions and Education Research Unit (WRERU) has been established within Lincoln Bishop as a dynamic centre for research and knowledge exchange. It brings together and supports existing activities while also fostering new initiatives dedicated to advancing research and development in world religions and education.
