Entrepreneurial Enterprises and Start-up Advice on the Agenda at BG Futures Business Open Morning

Several organisations were represented on the day including the Business Lincolnshire Growth Hub, the Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce and the Federation of Small Business all of whom were available to provide the students with advice on how to turn their enterprising ideas into reality.

In addition to the networking opportunities the students were also able to look around the BG Futures rentable office hubs and Student Enterprise Club; both of which are designed to help entrepreneurial talents get their business plans off the ground.

Speaking at the open morning Sarah Moseley, Enterprise Development Manager at BG Futures, explained how encouraging and nurturing entrepreneurial talents is a central part of both the Centre’s efforts and the wider university:

“At BGU, Enterprise is embedded throughout all curriculum areas and is regarded as one of our key Graduate Attributes. Enterprise Education is an excellent tool to prepare students for changing environments. Open mornings like this provide enhanced impact for our students and tenants by building links between the University and external organisations.

BG Futures has 14 business incubation units, offers a Virtual Office service and supports student enterprise at BGU. From offering business start-up advice to presenting real-world opportunities such as trading at the Lincoln Teenage Market we create as many innovative enterprising openings for our students as possible.”

Ed Capes, Director & Solicitor Corporate Law at Fraser Brown, was one of the local business leaders offering guidance to students at the open morning, and he shared why he was keen to take part:

“We were really pleased to be invited to take part in the BG Futures open morning. This was an excellent opportunity for us to meet current and prospective tenants as well as staff and students from BGU who help to make the centre thrive. Discussing commonly encountered problems and signposting where support and assistance can be found gives early stage businesses the best possible chance of success. BG Futures is an excellent facility for start-ups and we look forward to spending more time supporting and engaging with its tenants and students moving forward. “
