Bridge EDI 2025 Prize Winner Announced!

BGU’s BRIDgE prize award, originally launched by The University’s Base for Research in Inclusion, Diversity & Equality (BRIDgE) in 2024, celebrates students’ work on promoting Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.

This year, Thomas Clogg, a PGCE secondary student was chosen as the winner of the award!

The winning poster is chosen for highlighting and championing a particular equality issue and conveying this in a succinct, visually appealing way which will get people to stop, read and engage with the message of the poster. The award is designed to support people to think about equality in the widest possible sense and to see beyond simplistic messages.

The competition, which runs annually, is open to all students, full-time and part-time, studying at the main University campus.

Thomas attended a presentation on Tuesday 27^th May to celebrate his success and received a commemorative certificate together with £200 prize money.

Thomas said: “I believe Equality, Diversity and Inclusion is essential for secondary education because it ensures every child is valued, respected and supported irrespective of their background, ability or identity.

“The goal of EDI is to prepare students to thrive in a diverse society with reasonable steps.”

Professor Andrew Gower, Vice Chancellor of the University, and Dr Sheine Peart, Associate Professor in Access, Equality and Inclusion and BRIDgE member both attended the event to present Thomas with his award.

Sheine said: “The EDI annual poster competition is significant to both the University and the competition winner. For the University, it is one of the ways we demonstrate our active commitment to equality by working with our students to challenge and foreground issues of importance.

“For the winner, it shows their serious intent to be a leader and to challenge established thinking or behaviours to make positive difference to the lives of individuals and the communities.

“We want readers to use the poster to challenge their thinking and to raise awareness of wider concerns in education and beyond.”
